Welcome to another edition of ‘We Book Wrestling’, where members of The Reality Era speculate and book wrestling shows or scenarios. We haven’t done one of these since April, but it’s about time it returns to the website. This time I will be flying solo, no tag team booking on this go around. In this edition I will be discussing how I would book Samoa Joe’s debut on WWE’s main roster. So, let’s begin!
Before introducing how Samoa Joe will debut, I feel it’s necessary to inform you of the background to it. The actual debut of Samoa Joe will be at Royal Rumble 2017, but the build to it will start at Roadblock: End of the Line. On that show, Seth Rollins defeats Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens defeats Roman Reigns. The night after on Raw, Seth Rollins says it’s finally time for Triple H to come out and face Rollins like a man, explaining why he screwed him out of the Universal Championship back in August.
“The Game” didn’t get the chance to come out because Seth Rollins was interrupted by Kevin Owens. Owens says Rollins isn’t worth Triple H giving an explanation to and the only thing that matters is that Triple H realized how much better Kevin is than Seth. The two start arguing and are interrupted by Raw General Manager, Mick Foley. He says that he’s setting up a rematch between Rollins and Jericho later that night and if Rollins can win, it will be Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens at Royal Rumble for the Universal Championship. Seth Rollins wins due to the drama of Jericho and Owens, becoming the #1 Contender. Then during the following weeks leading up to Royal Rumble, Rollins continues to call out Triple H, while Triple H continues to not come out.
So now we’re at Royal Rumble and it’s Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens. The Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens relationship is so fractured at this point that there is no Jericho interference in the match. It’s a back-and-forth match but Seth Rollins ends up as the victor and is the new Universal Champion. While he’s celebrating his championship win, Triple H’s music comes on while Seth is in the ring. Triple H stays up on the stage. Before H begins talking, the camera goes to Seth who is holding up the championship and you can faintly hear him say something like,”I got it now Hunter! You couldn’t screw me over this time!”
Triple H begins to smile a little as he says, “Congratulations, Seth, you did it. You won the Universal Championship. But Kevin Owens was Plan A, and you should know better than anyone that I always have a Plan B.”
Samoa Joe’s music hits as he walks onto the stage. Triple H nods and Joe makes his way to the ring. As he’s doing that, Triple H tells Seth that he is now going to defend the Universal Championship against Samoa Joe at that moment. Seth puts up a fight, but Samoa Joe quickly takes control and destroys Seth Rollins, hits the Muscle Buster and becomes the new Universal Champion.
What I like to do when I’m booking a debut is I also want to include a little bit of aftermath showing what happens next. For Samoa Joe, he’d be a total monster going up to WrestleMania. Seth Rollins would head into a WrestleMania program with Triple H. At Fastlane, there’d be a rematch between Owens and Rollins, the winner goes on to face Samoa Joe for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania. Triple H manages to screw Rollins out of that match which then leads to a match between those two. Meanwhile, that interference results in Kevin Owens being granted a Universal Championship match against Samoa Joe at WrestleMania.
