NXT Takeover: Brooklyn 2 – Preview and Predictions

August 20, 2016

We Write Wrestling – @WeWriteWrestlin

NXT makes it up back to Brooklyn, New York for the second time. This year it’s headlined by NXT champion Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura. We’ll also see a more serious side of No Way Jose, the debut of Bobby Roode and more. NXT Takeover is back!

Preview Panel

Sean Hollenhors: Editor here at We Write Wrestling as well as WWE Superstars and NXT reviewer.

Trey Lee: A teenager who witnessed the Undertaker’s streak ending in person.

Dylan Osborn: What Culture Pro Wrestling reviewer

Andrew David: New Japan Pro Wrestling reviewer. He’s still recovering from reviewing the G1 Climax here on the website.

Ember Moon vs Billie Kay

Ember Moon vs TBA

Sean: Unless it’s someone special, Ember Moon seems too “magical” to lose right away. Prediction: Ember Moon

Trey: Ember Moon is debuting and she will obviously wIn. Not much else to say. She’ll more than likely be facing Asuka at the next TakeOver. Prediction: Ember Moon

Dylan: Well considering how barren the NXT women’s division is now, I honestly can’t guess who her opponent will be, but with the hype videos surrounding her, I assume Ember Moon is winning her match. Prediction: Ember Moon

Andrew: Shinsuke Nakamura

No Way Jose vs Austin Aries

No Way Jose vs. Austin Aries

Sean: I think Aries is going to establish a run for the title here and No Way Jose is his first victim. Prediction: No Way Jose

Trey: No Way Jose has shown an aggressive side lately, which is good to see, because the first time I saw him, I thought he would be relegated to a jobber role. Austin Aries is such a great heel and should continue to gain momentum before eventually challenging for the NXT Title (or maybe the NXT Tag Team Titles with a GLORIOUS partner?). Aries via Last Chancery here. Prediction: Austin Aries

Dylan: This should be a solid enough match, Austin has been looking good so far in NXT and he should win here to continue that trend. Short analysis but Aries will win. Prediction: Austin Aries

Andrew: Shinsuke Nakamura

NXT Tag Team Titles

NXT Tag Team Championship

The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) (c) vs. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa

Sean: Whatever happens, the Authors of Pain will probably hurt someone by the end of the match. Prediction: The Revival

Trey: I’m predicting an upset here. SmackDown is a little bit short on tag teams, and I think the Revival could shine on the blue brand. That’s why I think they will lose the titles here and move up. Gargano and Ciampa work well as tag partners, and I think they could take over (no pun intended) as the faces of the revitalized NXT tag division. Prediction: Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa

Dylan: Potential MOTN and MOTYC, that the best Tag Team in NXT/WWE combine them with two of the best wrestlers on NXT and you’ll get a classic. This is going to be a mix of new school strong style wrestling from Gargano and Ciampa and old school tag team heel action from The Revival. The revival should pick up the win here, maybe a miscommunication from Ciampa and Johnny to continue their tension shown in the CWC. Be a nice way of combining the two to make CWC even more a must watch for any other storyline developments. Prediction: The Revival

Andrew: Shinsuke Nakamura

Prices vs Bobby Roode

Andrade “Cien” Almas vs. Bobby Roode

Sean: Roode is too GLORIOUS to lose. His theme song deserves some kind of championship belt. Prediction: Bobby Roode

Dylan: The will be a certain word beginning with G, haven’t figured it out yet? Good, this match will be good. Andrade is a good talent and I don’t even need to describe how good Roode is, I’m loving his character but hopefully he doesn’t start referencing the stupid “Glorious” meme. Prediction: Bobby Roode

Andrew: Shinsuke Nakamura

Bayley vs Asuka

NXT Women’s Championship

Asuka (c) vs. Bayley

Sean: Asuka is going to jump Bayley out of NXT. Potential show-stealing match of the night. Prediction: Asuka

Trey: Bayley’s time in NXT has come and gone. We are now in the Era of Asuka. Asuka locks in the Asuka Lock, and Bayley doesn’t pass out, she taps. Prediction: Asuka

Dylan: Another potential MOTN and MOTYC, this will be awesome and depending on how they run the card, they won’t have to follow a 5 star classic this time so the crowd can be more invested. While it’s still a face V face match, I like how there’s still genuine rivalry and some level of hate between the two. Hopefully I won’t have hear about poor little Izzy when Asuka retains her title. While I don’t think Bayley is leaving just yet, I don’t think she’s recapturing the gold, the need to keep Asuka’s streak going. Prediction: Asuka

Andrew: Shinsuke Nakamura

Samoa Joe vs Shinsuke Nakamura

NXT Championship

Samoa Joe (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

Sean: They are going to kill each other. I can’t wait. Prediction: Shinsuke Nakamura

Trey: This should be a hard hitting match. Both guys work super stiff, and it should be a great match. I wouldn’t be surprised if Joe was the first guy to beat Nakamura, but I’m going with my gut and choosing Shinsuke. Prediction: Shinsuke Nakamura

Dylan: This is my pick for MOTN, and again, MOTYC, this match is going to hurt, a lot. Two men who just love kicking the shit out of their opponents, with Nakamura’s charisma and Joe’s monster heel persona, this will be an awesome clash and honestly I don’t know how to call this one. If Joe loses the belt already his reign looks weak, but I don’t want Nakamura’s streak to end either. Just so Joe’s title reign looks more impressive and isn’t just transitional, I’m going to say Joe wins, but by making Nakamura pass out, not pinning or submitting, that way both men still look strong in the context of a rematch. Prediction: Samoa Joe

Andrew: Shinsuke Nakamura. Prediction: Shinsuke Nakamura
