Sasha Banks vs. Summer Rae
For many, Sasha Banks is the entry point at which Pro Wrestling begins and they are lucky. Banks is an incredible wrestler and if she is the standard against which her contemporaries and juniors are judged, the Professional Wrestling world would do well to heed to the Legit Boss.
Banks applies a wicked Bank Statement (picking up the submission) to Summer Rae, who is impressively brutal in spite of what her, sadly, many vocal critics are opining. It’s almost as if one were expected to not like her because of her non-verbal behavior and pantomiming. Summer Rae’s athletic prowess and brutal in ring style are the product of hard work and expert control. The notion of Stan Hansen’s “Carpenter” has a fine example in Summer Rae and she makes Banks look great.
Baron Corbin vs. Jack Swagger
Superstars this week may as well be the Baron Corbin Show. Not only is his match the main event, he gets a Renee Young-conducted promo and an expansive recap of the Corbin/Dolph Ziggler feud to this point. Corbin is an interesting figure who seems poised for title shots and high caliber matches post-brand split and has honed his character to a fine point relative to his NXT days.
Corbin and Jack Swagger engage in a really compelling, snug match that displays the best of both the hybrid style of Swagger and the astonishingly fast brawler style of The Lone Wolf. Corbin pulls off a gnarly End of Days to pin yet another former World Heavyweight Champion.
