WWE Extreme Rules 2016 (May 22) – Preview and Predictions

Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin

No Disqualification Match

Sean Hollenhors: I have a feeling Corbin will get busted open the hard way.

Prediction: Baron Corbin

Tacc Brown: I really liked how Corbin was introduced to the main roster. It was totally unexpected for him to not only enter but win the Andre battle royal. I don’t think WWE have capitalized on it though. Corbin needs to be booked as a monster heel and shouldn’t be crushing opponents in minutes, at least until he comes up against some top tier talent. As for Ziggler? I really want to like him but I’ve just gotten really bored of him recently. He can only say hes tired of being mid-card and is making a push for the top so many times before its starts getting stupid…and its started…Corbin over Ziggler…hopefully…

Prediction: Baron Corbin

Tee Link: Corbin and Ziggler have been locked in the feud ever since right after Wrestlemania. This should be the blow off. Both could use some freshening up, so expect the newcomer to best the veteran and move onto a more significant role in the main roster.

Prediction: Baron Corbin

WWE United States Championship

Kalisto (c) vs. Rusev (with Lana)

Sean: I hope to Jeebus Rusev gets the US Title. Could be the sleeper match of the show.

Prediction: Rusev

Tacc: Rusev for me represents a wasted opportunity. Especially over the last year or so where WWE has been hit hard by injuries. They needed a killer heel to step up and that should have been Rusev but for whatever reason that wasn’t the case. I hope this is a turn back to form for the Bulgarian Brute and a little flippy guy like Kalisto is the perfect guy to help that happen. I think Kalisto is under rated and is doing a good job as the US champ. Hopefully this is the start of a good feud between the two.

Prediction: Kalisto

Tee: The storyline between Rusev and Kalisto is one of a few getting a lot more buildup than we’re used to seeing in the lower-midcard. Kalisto has had a respectable singles title run, but I predict Rusev walking out with the title and renewing his rivalry with John Cena when Memorial Day rolls around.

Prediction: Rusev

WWE Women’s Championship

Charlotte (c) vs. Natalya

Submission Match – If Ric Flair disregards his ban from ringside, Charlotte will lose her title

Sean: I think this match will rival their NXT encounter. Sasha Banks will appear and steal the whole damn show.

Prediction: Charlotte

Tacc: I really love submissions matches. I always find them super exciting. Add into that mix my Queen of Harts, Natalya, getting a title shot and I will be well up for this one. The added stipulation to keep Ric away from the match is a good move too I just hope they don’t use it to do some sort of stupid screw finish or some other weird s**t. I just want a great submission match from this one and nothing else.

Prediction: Natalya

Tee: This might well be the lock of the night. Natalya only serves as a stepping stone to make Charlotte look stronger. Even though Ric Flair barred from ringside, look for him to still get involved in some way. Charlotte will clash with her father and finally pick up the win cleanly on her own.

Prediction: Charlotte

WWE Tag Team Championship

The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston and/or Xavier Woods) (c) vs. The Vaudevillains (Aiden English and Simon Gotch)

Sean: May Big E and co. slam both Vaudvillains into oblivion. I predict a very messy finish.

Prediction: The New Day

Tacc: This match bothers me. I’m pretty sure that Enzo and Cass should have been in the spot the Vaudvillains are now but due to Enzo’s horrible injury that’s not the case. I also feel that Gotch was at fault for that injury and it was a rookie mistake. As much as I want to see new guys coming through I don’t think they deserve to be in a title challenging position just yet, they (Gotch especially) are too green and too much of a risk. What if they same happens to Kofi or Big E? Anyway…I do expect a good match. We all get distracted by New Day’s amazing promo work but they are all great workers too and can hopefully guide the Vaudvillains to a decent match.

Prediction: The New Day

Tee: It would be good to have a nice long match in the spot between the New Day and the Vaudevillians. The former NXT champs have not endured themselves to the WWE crowd just yet, but this is their chance to get over so-to-speak. The New Day will retain while the Vaudevillians look good taking the loss.

Prediction: The New Day

WWE Intercontinental Championship

The Miz (c) (with Maryse) vs. Kevin Owens vs. Cesaro vs. Sami Zayn

Sean: I predict bell-to-bell wrestling radness. The Owens/Zayn feud enters a new realm.

Prediction: Sami Zayn

Tacc: I don’t usually like 4 way matches really. They’re a bit too chaotic for my liking. But when you put my 2 current favorite WWE superstars in there and then throw in the excellent Cesaro and Miz I think this could steal the show. The heat between Zayn and Owens is white hot and will serve as a great battle to build the story of the match around. Miz has been excellent lately too and we all know how good Cesaro is. This will be chaotic, hard hitting and edge of your seat stuff and could serve to build the story between all 4 wrestlers even more. I expect great things if their given the time they deserve.

Prediction: Kevin Owens

Tee: The four way has the chance to steal the show at this year’s Extreme Rules. I could really see this going to any of the competitors, but I predict Kevin Owens getting the pinfall victory and continue the 15 year long storyline with Sami Zayn chasing the championship.

Prediction: Kevin Owens

Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho – Asylum Match

Sean: I predict a bunch of stupid idiots will enjoy Mitch 2.0 being smashed over Jericho’s head. Both guys will get busted open.

Prediction: Dean Ambrose

Tacc: What the hell is an Asylum match? I mean is it just a cage match? But Ambrose said you can’t win by escaping so is it pin only? Don’t get me wrong, a chance to see Ambrose and Jericho work a match is something I will always get excited for I just don’t know the kind of match we’re going to see. Jericho is having one of his best heel runs ever (you stupid idiots) and Ambrose is a solid hand although I don’t see him as deserving the WWE title as some do. Another possible match of the night candidate here though I think and I’ve got Ambrose to go over this time.

Prediction: Dean Ambrose

Tee: Lately the Dean Ambrose has been living up the the “lunatic fringe” moniker. This match should make Extreme Rules worthy of the name. I expect Ambrose to beat a bloodied Jericho.

Prediction: Dean Ambrose

WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Roman Reigns (c) vs. AJ Styles

Sean: This match might finally make Reigns get over. Or not. Either way I hope it’s the blow off of The Family vs. The Club deal. Should be brutal and gnarly.

Prediction: AJ Styles

Tacc: Something strange has happened for me here. I’m actually looking forward to a Roman Reigns match. I know he gets alot of negative heat and I don’t think he is as bad as some say…I just find him kinda boring. Like Lance Storm without the wrestling talent. But AJ showed at Payback that he can work a great match with anyone after having an absolute stunner with Reigns there. This is the rematch and I am really excited for it. Plus there’s the added possibility (certainty) of The Club getting involved and the looming presence of Triple H who has yet to have his rematch from mania. Its an exciting main event which could go in a lot of different directions and I know which one I hope it does…

Prediction: AJ Styles

Tee: This has been one of the weirder feud going in. A passer-by might look at this and see a heel champion with face allies going against a face challenger flanked by two heels. The roles and motivations coming in are blurred. Hopefully the pay-per-view clears things up a little bit. If that is the case, no matter where they go with it, I see Roman Reigns holding on to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for quite a while longer.

Prediction: Roman Reigns
